ADVICE
TO BRITISH HAJJIS
Leaflet
from FCO, Muslim community &
Organisations
The
Foreign & Commonwealth Office
and the Hajj Advisory Group
know how deeply important the
Hajj is to all those who attend
it. This year around 25,000
British Hajjis will attend the
Hajj in order to perform this
demanding and fulfilling act
in the name of Allah, the most
beneficent the most merciful.
The aim of this leaflet is to
assist you in preparing for
the Hajj and to explain what
services the British Hajj Delegation
can offer British Pilgrims in
Saudi Arabia.

By
Dr. Shuja Shafi
Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage
to Mecca, is the largest annual
gathering of its kind in the
world. All adult Muslims who
are physically and financially
able to do so have a religious
obligation to make the pilgrimage
once in their lifetime, and
each year, over two million
Muslims from around the world
gather in Mecca.

HOW ISLAM
CHANGED MEDICINE
Arab physicians
and scholars laid the basis
for medical practice in Europe
Islamic
civilisation once extended from

Ocean in the west. Buildings
in Andalusia such as the Alhambra
in Granada, the Mezquita in
Cordoba, and the Giralda in
Seville are reminders of the
architectural imprint this civilisation
left on western Europe. . More

THE
GLAMOUR OF GRIME |
8
November 2005
The
BBC's Life of Grime documentary
series, which began by shadowing
local authority rat-catchers
and food safety enforcement
officers in the UK, has now
spawned spin-off programmes
in New York and put the behind-the-scenes,
often prosaic work of environmental
health officers firmly on
the TV map.
